Master´s of Service Management

The full-time master's program takes into account the growing importance of the "services" sector of the economy.  Access to higher civil service and doctoral programs is opened up.

The Master's program in Services Management is a four-semester, consecutive study program. It is aimed at graduates of business courses such as business administration, economics, (international) management, industrial engineering or business informatics, who wish to use the master's course for further academic qualification and professional entry into practice after one of these first professional qualifications.

Structure and Content of the Study Program

The first semester includes courses in the field of business analysis, sustainable business management and is also devoted to macroeconomic issues.

From the second semester onwards, the focus is on methodological and instrumental knowledge of services. This includes modules such as service controlling or service marketing and sales. You will also learn the methodology for service development, e.g. on the basis of structuring and standardizing service processes. Two elective modules for individualizing your areas of competence with regard to sectoral and personal preferences complete this semester.

The third semester initially deals with the topics of customer management and start-up management. You will also put the knowledge you have acquired so far to the test during a 14-week practical phase. This usually takes place on a project basis in cooperation with interesting practice or research partners.

You will complete your studies in the fourth semester with the 24-week master's thesis.

Career Prospects

Services are different

Unlike tangible goods, they are intangible goods - they are not tangible and cannot be stored or inventoried. Services are marketed and sold on their own or in the context of tangible products, e.g. as a service. The master's program at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences at the Bocholt campus teaches you these and other special features of services and puts you in a position to be successful in the management of services.

Services are a growth market

The entire scientific and economic activity on national and international markets is newly and increasingly oriented towards service management. Already more than 2/3 of the German and international gross domestic product is generated in the service industries such as trade, telecommunications, insurance or finance. In addition, there are internal services such as IT services, marketing services or personnel services, which are provided in industrial companies. This results in a growing demand on the labor market for service management.

Are services something for you?

Your broad-based service knowledge of companies, personnel, customers, processes and information, as well as the possibility of specialization on a sectoral and individual level, will open up a wide range of professional career opportunities for you as a graduate. Become a manager with specialized know-how and benefit from the expanding service market.
