Master´s of Informatics - Intelligent Systems
The master's program "Informatics - Intelligent Systems" is an application-oriented master's program that enables graduates to design intelligent distributed systems ...
- to conceptualize and design intelligent distributed systems according to business and technical requirements from concrete application areas
- to plan for cost-efficient operation and administration
- to realize them with the help of modern methods and tools
- to adapt them to changing requirements over a long lifetime and to expand them accordingly
Structure and Content of the Study Program
This study program is designed for four semesters and in such a way that graduates of the Bachelor's programs "Informatics - Software Systems" and "Electrical Engineering" as well as "Business Information Systems" at the Bocholt Campus can be accepted without any problems and receive a consistent broadening and deepening of the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's program.
The subjects of the master's program are divided into the following areas:
- Development of enterprise applications
- Intelligent Systems
- Software Engineering in theory and practice
- Security and data protection
- Leadership
For further information on the modules in these areas, please refer to the module handbook.
The fourth semester is devoted entirely to the preparation of the final thesis (Master Thesis) and concludes with the degree of Master of Science.
Career Prospects
Graduates of this study program are able to hold IT-related management positions in IT consulting and IT user companies. The typical career entry is as a junior consultant or in a prominent position in projects or in sub-project management. With the imparted application-related knowledge, graduates can also initially work in development and then later (typically after 3-5 years) move into a corresponding management position to grow into a corresponding management position.
The central tasks of a graduate includes the planning, development, implementation and optimization of intelligent information technology systems. The graduates have mastered principles, methods and tools in order to independently solve demanding tasks with technical and business aspects in the environment of such information systems. They are active in projects in which aspects of the technical realization.
Typical areas of activity are, for example:
- Theory, application and development of artificial intelligence
- Connecting existing business applications to the Internet for interactive use
- Design and integration of distributed business processes between business partners via the Internet (e.g. supply chain management, collaborative planning and forecasting, marketplaces, etc.)
- Design and build systems to support distributed workgroups (tele-learning, tele-conferencing, tele-presence)
- Development of cloud-based systems for the intelligent evaluation of data from locally distributed technical systems, e.g. for predictive maintenance applications
- Design of IT security concepts for new or existing distributed systems
- Exploitation and development of new applications based on new paradigms resp. technologies (e.g. in the areas of mobile computing, mobile agents, pervasive computing)
Potential employers are both companies in the IT sector that have offer the above-mentioned topics as part of their own products or as consulting services, as well as industrial and service companies in various sectors that deal with these topics as part of the further development of their own business processes. It can be assumed that the opportunities for graduates will increase as the penetration of information technology continues to grow.
