Bachelor´s of Environmental Engineering Sciences
The Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) "Environmental Engineering" program addresses environmental topics such as water supply and wastewater disposal, circular economy / recycling management and alternatives to energy supply. The program combines the environmental expertise of the Faculty of Mechanical, Environmental and Plant Engineering with the expertise of other faculties and research institutions at the university. Graduates are able to analyze and deal with environmental issues scientifically and thus make an effective contribution to solving current and future-oriented tasks. Thus, they are equally well equipped for activities in the fields of research, development, implementation and consulting. Graduates are able to work in management positions in companies involved in the supply and disposal of resources and waste, the construction industry, environmental technology, in general engineering, planning and consulting offices, in the public sector (environmental administration) or in non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Structure of the Study Program
The study program is offered in the following variants:
- undergraduate course (6 semesters)
- individual entry (7 semesters)
- training-integrated study (8 semesters)
- part-time study (8 semesters)
Study focus
The focus of this study program is clearly on engineering subjects. In the first semesters, the technical, scientific and business fundamentals are taught, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, as well as applied computer science, material technology and commercial management. From the third semester onwards, the focus is more on application-oriented environmental technology modules. The mix of theoretical and practice oriented knowledge insures a high problem solving ability. The students are able to use different methods and tools for structuring, analysing and solving problems. The training in soft skills enables the students to manage social problems and to develop and defend adequate strategies of action.
In the 7-semester study option, additional flex modules are offered in the first four semesters to assist in areas of low prior knowledge and lack of experience. The special feature of the training-integrated study variant is the interlocking of a vocational training ("apprenticeship") with our study program. Training companies cooperate with our University of Applied Sciences and grant freedom of study during and after the apprenticeship.
