Career Prospects
Business psychologists combine economics with behavioral sciences. Both disciplines complement each other without a doubt: Psychological mechanisms influence all economic decisions, from the purchasing decisions of customers to the investment decisions of company management as well as decisions about how to lead and develop employees. Human decision making is not a rational activity, but influenced by personal desires, irrational thoughts, and sometimes anxiety instead. Business Psychologists use this knowledge to understand, predict and modify the behavior of customers, employees and managers in organizations. The competencies of business psychologists are therefore helpful in human resources departments, e.g. in recruitment, selection and hr development, but also in coaching, training and supervision. Business Psychologists design and support organizational change processes in business and administrative organizations as well. Other important and interesting fields of research and activity in business psychology are consumer behavior, behavioral finance and controlling or media psychology.
