Bachelor´s of Informatics & Software Systems
Shaping the future with Informatics! Today, Informatics can be found in all areas of life. It is not only in PCs, laptops or smartphones, but also in cars and other products. It optimizes processes in power plants, solar systems or hospitals, it controls machines and traffic. And without information technology, there would be no Internet! These are just a few examples of the many possible applications and areas of use - and there are more every day. A qualified degree in computer science is therefore a guarantee for excellent opportunities on the job market.
In our practice-oriented bachelor's degree program in Computer Science.Software Systems, you will quickly learn to develop your own software for the PC, the web, as well as for smartphones, and to handle software projects professionally. It is important to us that you can design the focus of your studies according to your interests. Therefore, our study program includes a large elective area that covers the three pillars of business, entertainment and mobile. At the end of your studies, you will be able to drive developments in these areas and help shape the future. In concrete terms, you will receive a professional qualification to professionally design and create software systems, as well as to accompany such systems through the complete lifecycle from concept to planning, implementation, testing, delivery and update.
Structure and Content of the Study Program
In the first two semesters you will learn the basics of computer science as well as the basics of modern computer architectures and operating systems and the necessary mathematical principles. The first semester also includes the Students' Lab module, in which students work on interesting projects in small projects together with students from higher semesters. The subjects of the program span a wide range from software design and the various tools to programming in different languages or the accompanying subjects such as project management.
From the third semester onwards, you will deepen your knowledge of relevant topics in programming and the creation of large software systems in a wide-ranging elective area. This includes topics from the areas of Internet applications and mobile systems, business applications and computer graphics. Here you can give your studies an individual profile depending on your choice of focus.
The elective courses (A) are a selection of courses from the areas of Business - Entertainment - Mobile. Five different courses must be taken.
The current elective courses in Catalog A are:
- Architectures of business information systems
- Standard business software
- Computer Graphics
- Internet applications
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Mobile applications 1
- Distributed Systems Programming
- Software Engineering - Project
In the elective courses (B) current trends and developments are taken up and topics from the specialization areas are continued. Courses from the area of "Electives (A)" can also be taken here.
The current elective courses in Catalog B are, for example:
- Computer Graphics - Project
- Business Process Management
- Basics and Applications of the Extensible Markup Language
- Intelligent Systems
- Internet Applications - Project
- Mobile Applications 2
- Programming languages and paradigms
The selection of subjects is deliberately designed to be flexible in order to give the students' respective interests optimum scope for development and to offer a wide range of specialization options.
In the main study period, about a quarter of the courses are project-related, whereby in many cases - in cooperation with companies in the region - practice-relevant tasks are worked on, which originate from the subject area of the respective module.
The practical phase and the final thesis in the last semester are almost exclusively carried out at companies in professional practice. The exception is work at the university that originates from specific research and development projects.
Career Prospects
Computer scientists work in many sectors: Industry and production, banks and insurance companies, communications companies, utilities and the energy industry, trade and public administration. Many products and services are no longer conceivable without computer science: Smartphones, smart TVs and industrial machines, energy generation and goods production, goods sales and logistics or communication with customers and business partners.
A qualified degree in computer science practically guarantees excellent opportunities on the job market. Leading medium-sized companies as well as well-known large corporations are potential employers of graduates of the program. The "software and IT services" sector of the information technology industry has grown by almost 20 percent in recent years - despite all the crises. IT experts are in demand: Every year, many thousands of new jobs are currently created in the industry - especially sought after: software developers.
