Student facilities 

Like the other campuses of Westfälische Hochschule, our campus in Recklinghausen we offer many facilities for our students to make their stay with us even more enjoyable. Here, most study programs are technical-economic and natural science centered. That is why the building has many laboratories.

This campus also has a food court and a café to take a break from classes, study or meet with your friends. Of course, a library is also not missing at our campus in Recklinghausen and just like at every of our campus, you can use your student ID to borrow books as well as to pay for your food. 

The campus is only a few walking minutes away from the Recklinghausen train station. Right behind the train station, you can find the downtown area where you can go shopping or grab some delicious food. All within walking distance to the Westfälische Hochschule!
 

The city of Recklinghausen is located in NRW at the border between the regions "Ruhrgebiet" and "Münsterland". Very typical for a city within this region, Recklinghausen used to be characterized by its mining industry. Today, the "Ruhrgebiet" is a very important hub - both for business and science in NRW and Germany. 

Recklinghausen is known for being the host of the Ruhrfestspiele, Europe's biggest theatre festival, which takes place from May 1st until the middle of July. It it has an interesting history and is also known for the many old buildungs in the downtown area.

The beautiful downtown area of Recklinghausen is characterized by many stores, restaurants and cafés and a big mall, the Palais Vest. It offers some yearly events such as:

• the famous christmas market
• the "Ritterspiele", which is a middle Ages event right next to the town hall
• and the "Palmkirmes", a huge funfair

On more calm days, you have a number of parks to visit. Besides, one of the highlights is the City Harbor. It is located at the Rhine–Herne canal and is a great place to hang out during the summer. You can relax in typical beach chairs and on couches while having cool drinks. Meanwhile, the active outdoor lovers can play beach volleyball. In the evening, there are parties or you can simply enjoy the sunset.
 

As Recklinghausen is also part of the famous "Ruhrgebiet", it is surrounded by many other interesting towns like Gelsenkirchen, Bochum, Essen and Dortmund.
Even bigger cities such as Aachen and Münster, as well as vibrant metropoles such as Düsseldorf and Cologne are just one train ride away. The Netherlands can be reached within less than two hours. 
With your semesterticket you can take any public transportation ride for free in NRW.

A spontaneous trip to another place is easy, very comfortable and exciting!
 

The ASTA (The General Student Committee) also regularly organizes events and parties for students. Trips by bus or plane to major European cities such as Barcelona, Prague or Amsterdam are offered.  And due to the fact that there is always a reason to celebrate, students organize pub crawls and barbecues throughout the year.
