Like Bocholt, Ahaus belongs to the district of Borken.

Although smaller with just 39,000 inhabitants, Ahaus has several similarities  with Bocholt – especially where greenbelt land is concerned as it also made up of the forest and meadow landscapes typical of the west Münsterland.
And as in Bocholt, the town’s  economic element is led by medium-sized companies.

Ahaus’s twin-town of Haaksbergen can be reached  via the the Euregio Arts and Culture Route, a  60-kilometre long cycle-path. Other towns and numerous sites of special cultural interest are accessible from along the route.
The range of outdoor leisure activities in Ahaus includes further cycle routes as well as footpaths for rambling, routes for in-liners, balloon trips and two swimming pools.
Other entertainment can be found in the town’s numerous cafés and pubs plus the 20 cinemas.
